Our Rubbaflex flooring system is combined with the best polyurethane resins to ensure you get a floor that remains bright and colourful.

Overview

Rubbaflex® fg is a wet pour product made up of Gezoflex 0.5-1.5mm EPDM granules combined with a  one component polyurethane binder. It’s most common uses are in the construction of pool surrounds, splashpads and wet play environments.

 It is a porous product, and this finer blend gives a smoother more compressed aesthetically pleasing surface finish. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, vertically and horizontally.

Rubbaflex fg is available in a number of colours and can be blended together to give an infinite number of unique colour combinations.

Resins

Flexflooring use a selection of polyurethane binders sourced from aroAliphatic vs Aromaticund Europe.

There are two classes of polyurethane binders;

Aliphatic binders, are a non yellowing, UV stable binder which dramatically reduces colour fade. It is a class of isocyanate used in the manufacture of light stable coatings, more expensive than…

Aromatic binders, commonly used in the construction of playgrounds, but will cause colours to fade in UV light, as it is a class of isocyanate which is sensitive to Oxidisation and prone to degradation in direct sunlight.

The importance of substrata; It is of vital importance that the concrete base is of a sufficient specification (see concrete spec) to enable it to cope with the freeze thaw cycle it will inevitably go through. Once concrete starts to sprawl, breaking away from the slab, any epdm surface will break away with it, causing the surface to lose adhesion.

Lasting colours ; In order to reduce colour change from direct sunlight, you must ensure that the binding resin is an aliphatic and not an aromatic resin. Not only do the pigments in epdm have to deal with resins, in this environment they have to deal with chlorine. Some colours cope better than others, but also over chlorination by the dosing units can have an effect.

Hygiene; A splashpad’s concrete base will be built to falls, allowing water to drain away. EPDM surfaces are porous, that is water will flow through them. If there are areas where water sits, that has fallen from a child’s body, then there is a potential for that water to breed bacteria, causing the surface to blacken. It is more common in indoor spashpads where there is also the constant heat. Some splashpads use a larger grade of EPDM, normally 1-4mm, the consequence of this is that they need to be installed at a greater depth, normally 15mm, this can act like a sponge and hold the water, again promoting bacterial growth.
