Beefeater Grill Restaurant

Client: John Wilkinson & Son
Stonex Resin Bound

Project Background

Working for John Wilkinson & Son, a leading edge refurbishment and fit-out contractor for the retail, hotel, hospitality and commercial sectors, Flexflooring has installed a Stonex floor into a brand new Beefeater Grill restaurant in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Stonex was chosen for its hard wearing properties and modern aesthetic.

With the introduction of our new Stonex Resin Bound Stone product at the end of 2012, we can now offer a far greater range of looks and finishes. A versatile product, Stonex has recently been installed at the Beefeater Grill Concept Restaurant in Halifax.

After an initial meeting with SEA design group, an award winning design consultancy, Flexflooring developed bespoke Stonex blends based on the designer’s concepts. Following approval of the final mix, incorporating stone from Sidec in Belgium as well as Derbyshire Aggregates, Flexflooring was awarded the contract.

Sidec Grey 2-3mm stone S7046, Sidec Grey 2-3mm stone S7116, Daltex White flint 2-5mm, Daltex black 2-5mm, EAA resin, SAD33, PU W Matt.

Stonex Resin Bound

Stonex Resin Bound

Stonex is a Resin Bound Stone product offered by Flexflooring and comes in a range of colours and aggregates to allow the customer to tailor the look perfectly to individual surroundings. In this instance, the client decided on a unique mix of grey quartz in a 2-3mm aggregate combined with a black and white flint in a 2-5mm aggregate to create a contemporary look. Stonex floors can be installed with either a gloss or matte finish depending on client preference and for this installation a matte finish was achieved with a polyurethane matte finishing coat. In addition 2 coats of acrylate pore filler were installed before the finishing coat to seal the surface, ensuring the finished floor is easier to clean and maintain.

The multi stage installation took a total of 5 working days. Flexflooring installed a floor smoothing compound to raise the floor level to allow an 8mm finish to the Stonex floor. An epoxy primer was then roller coated on to the surface followed by the unique Stonex mix, which is hand trowelled by our team of experienced installers. Learn more about industrial epoxy resin flooring.

After leaving the Stonex to cure for a full 24 hours, the acrylate sealer was installed, each individual coat requires 24 hours to cure. The matt finishing coat was installed on the final day and left to cure overnight.

On completion, Beefeater Grill are left with a contemporary looking Stonex floor that can deal with the rigours of a busy bar and restaurant and will continue to look great for years to come.
