Gheluvelt Park Splash Pad

Client: Worcester City Council
Rubbaflex

Project Background

Working in conjunction with Ustigate Waterplay for Worcester City Council, Flexflooring Ltd’s safety surfacing completes the natural looking interactive water feature. The project provided some unique challenges, given  the inclusion of numerous rock formations and a softly undulating surface. However, uneven surfaces and irregular shapes pose no problem for our Rubbaflex surface system as it is hand trowelled by our team of experienced installers and can be trowelled around any object, leaving a smooth, seam free finish

Prep Work

In order to install our surface, new concrete is prepared and areas are marked out ready for each of the 3 colour mixes used.  In a change from the more usual choice of blues and yellows for Splash pad surfaces, the colours used within this installation are made up of more neutral blends.  Starting at the top end of the Splash pad, the first colour mix installed is called Andalucía and is a mix of equal parts white, beige, and dark grey. The second colour is then installed, this consists of 100% brown, which creates a strong contrast against the Andalucía.

Products Used

Gezoflex 0.5-1.5mm EPDM granules, Aliphatic polyurethane, concrete primer

The addition of the final colour combination of Beach (white and yellow) finishes off the subtle colour scheme.  The  overall effect, along with the rocks and jets is stunning.
