250M2 Stonex Quartz Screed
Project Background
Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, in conjunction with tmactive, wanted an overhaul of their changing and shower area floors. The existing tiled floor complete with drainage gullies, was a maintenance headache, all those grout lines and was in need of modernisation.
As always time was of the essence, the only available window was the two weeks before Christmas, there wasn’t enough time or budget to lift and dispose of all the tiles or remove the cubicles and fixtures in order to get it completed.
Solution
Flexflooring installed 250m2 of our Stonex Quartz Screed product, a very fine decorative quartz, over the top of the current tiled surface, removed the 180m of perimeter tiles and built a coved upstand to blend in with the surface and making maintenance a lot easier.

Process
We started by removing the perimeter tile and hand grinding the whole area. Aluminium trim was installed above the removed tile. Once the area was ready, we installed a specialist epoxy tile primer and broadcast quartz into the surface.
Over the following two days, we installed the cove and the floor. Once the surface was installed the team twice pore filled it with an epoxy gel. The final process was to roller coat a polyurethane matt seal coat with a non-slip additive.
The Result
The installation was completed in 8 days, ahead of schedule. The result is a very tough, decorative and slip resistant surface with matching coved upstand, greatly improving the look and feel.
