Project Background
As part of a larger refurbishment project, we installed a total of 82m² (52m² horizontally, with 26m² vertically on step risers) of Stonex Quartz Screed on the stairs from the changing rooms to the indoor swimming pool at Swallows Leisure Centre in Sittingbourne. The client chose the Slate colour blend, with step nosing contrast in the Arctic colour blend.
The Process
Quartz Screed is a fine blend of coloured quartz, combined with a chemical resistant epoxy binder. It is a great option in wet leisure environments.
This system is hand trowelled at a depth of 6mm and then finished with two epoxy grout coats, and in this instance a final sealer coat with a non-slip polymer for a finish with greater slip resistance.
Our skilled team installed the main step and floor are in the slate colour blend, with the step nosings installed in the Arctic colour blend to enhance safety by maximising visibility. Trims were installed between colours and for step edging.
The Outcome
The area now has a non-porous, non-slip floor. Our installation ensures the leisure centre will have a clean, safe, slip resistant steps for many years to come.
